Title: Fallen Swamp Oak Leaf 1
Size: 5-1/2″ x 4″
Note of Interest: The Swamp White Oak (Quercus Bicolor) from which this leaf fell is a majestic, crown-shaped landscape feature at the artist’s home. Native to Pennsylvania (among other states), it provides cover and food for wildlife. The acorns can be roasted and ground for use as a coffee substitute. This particular tree experienced a tremendously “heavy nut year” in 2016, and has since dropped only a few acorns each fall

Title: I Will Prove It
Size: 5-1/2″ x 4″
Note of Interest: This small red maple (Acer rubrum) leaf fell in summer after a hole had been chewed into it, leaving me to reflect on the hole that is hurting us all, even though some chose to deny it.

Notes of Interest: White ash (Fraxinus americana L.) tree leaves blanketed the ground this year, but the ash trees are in danger. The emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle that kills the trees into which they bore, arrived to my woods in the summer of 2018. The looming demise of the ash trees will create a dramatic change in the character of the woodlands.
